1075 studies are added to FReSH

After a standardisation process, the FReSH catalogue now hosts all studies previously included in the Epidemiology France Portal.

From the Epidemiology France Portal to FReSH: a migration driven by metadata standardizsation

Launched in 2010, the Epidemiology France Portal (PEF) was one of the first national tools designed to identify and share databases useful for research in epidemiology and public health.

PEF thus enabled the identification of the main French individual health research databases in epidemiology, providing researchers with visibility on available data.

Created following the recommendations of the Strategic Council for the Health Industries, its goal was to support the development of research for public health, in particular by fostering collaborations between the public and private sectors.

PEF thus enabled the identification of the main French individual health research databases in epidemiology, providing researchers with visibility on available data.

A migration to preserve and sustain the data legacy

Today, all studies described in the PEF catalogue have found a new home within the FReSH Portal. This migration represents continuity of mission: promoting the emergence of new research projects through better identification and description of databases. However, in order to integrate these resources into FReSH, significant groundwork was required: the standardisation of metadata.

Spotlight on metadata

The descriptive study records in PEF contained field structures, vocabularies, and levels of detail that varied considerably. :
  • Restructure the data and align it with the FReSH catalogue schema : this required harmonisation and standardisation of descriptive fields, based on shared terminologies and references, enabling future interoperability with other national and European catalogues.
  • Update outdated information : some records required clarification or cleaning before becoming usable.
This process made these studies searchable within the FReSH catalogue. Thanks to this standardisation and subsequent integration, the information heritage established by PEF remains accessible.
